The Private Islander Goes Japan!
My next stop was to some nearby sulfur vents, a tell-tell sign Fuji’s violent past. The steam is very nice to look at, but the sulfur creates a putrid smell. For sale at the steam vents one can find eggs cooked in the steam. The sulfur gives them a black-colored shell, and eating one is supposed to give you seven years extra life. I dutifully ate two and then took a few pictures.

After eating the egg I took a boat across Lake Hakone and headed back to Tokyo. Once in Tokyo I visited Akihabara, the city’s electronics district. The district is host to more electronics than you could ever find in any North American city, but most items there are also available in North America and Europe. The technology gap between the West and Japan isn’t what it used to be.
Some of the electronics stores were huge. This one was nine stories. If it plugged in or had an on/off switch, chances are good you could find it in Akihabara. I also popped in the Anime Center for a minutes and looked around.
